Q. How much do you charge for lessons?
A. Lessons cost £25 per hour, or £15 per half hour.
Q. Do you offer a Bulk Booking Discount?
A. Yes, book 5, or more, lessons in advance and receive a 10% discount.
Q. Do you offer Gift Vouchers?
A. Yes, Personalised Vouchers are available from 30 minute Lessons to Bulk Bookings (Bulk Discounts apply).
They make a great Birthday or Christmas Present.
Q. What length lesson should I book?
A. I recommend 30 minute lessons for the younger pupils (say up to 11) and 1 hour lesson for others, although the choice is yours.
Q. Do you charge for missed lessons?
A. Yes, but not if you give me 24hrs notice, or if the lesson can be rescheduled for later in the same week.
Q. When do you teach?
A. I teach Mondays to Fridays, 5pm to 10pm.
Q. Do you teach weekends?
A. No, sorry Ė I have to have some social life.
Q. What skill levels do you teach?
A. From complete beginners to advanced, right up to Degree level and beyond.
Q. Can you teach pupils to take their grade examinations?
A. Yes, either Associated Boards/Trinity (Classical Guitar), or Rockschool (Electric Guitar).
Q. Do you have seating for parents that want to wait while their son/daughter has a lesson?
A. Yes, I have a comfortable seating area (see Photos) available for those who wish to wait, or watch the lesson. Reading material, Tea or Coffee, biscuits and sweets for the young ones are also available (free Ė of course).
Q. Can I park easily at Bath Guitar Studio?
A. Yes, free on street parking is available, or if you canít find a spot, free off road parking (outside my garage) is available.
Q. Are you a qualified teacher?
A. Yes, I have a BA Hons in Music (Guitar & Lute), and over 30 years teaching experience, including Prior Park College, Kingswood School & The City of Bath College).
Q. What do I need to bring to a lesson?
A. Just yourself and your instrument (everything else will be supplied)
Q. What if I forget my instrument, or if I break a string?
A. You are welcome to use one of my instruments during the lesson.
Q. I play Electric Guitar; do I need to bring an amplifier?
A. No, I have a 15W Marshall amp and a 90W Carlsboro amp for your use (also FX Pedals &†Drum Machine).
Q. Do I need to bring my own music?
A. No, but if you have something you wish to do then please bring it, otherwise, I will supply music/tablature as required.
Q. Do you do group lessons?
A. No, as pupils always learn at different rates, 1 to 1 tuition is really the only practical way to give effective lessons.
Q. Do I have to learn theory?
A. No, but I can teach you if you wish.
Q. Do I need to read music?
A. No, I can teach you using tablature (but for Classical Guitar you really do need to read music).
Q. Will I need to practise?
A. Yes, unfortunately there is no short cut to playing an instrument well, but just 20 minutes a day will keep you progressing.
Q. Can I get advice on which instrument to get?
A. Yes, I can give you advice on what to purchase, where and how much to pay (I can also get sizable discounts on most instruments).
